Cover Of The Week: M.A.C.C. does Hendrix
My last b-side post, a cover done by Foo Fighters, was so popular that I decided to spin it into a weekly series. So now every Friday I'll post a cover song for you.
The inaugural cover of the week was suggested by a friend. It's a Jimi Hendrix tune, "Hey Baby (Land Of The New Rising Sun)", as covered by M.A.C.C. The band is Mike McCready (guitar) and Jeff Ament (bass) from Pearl Jam, along with Matt Cameron (drums) and Chris Cornell (vocals) from Soundgarden. McCready is a self-professed Hendrix disciple, so it is no surprise that he and his Seattle friends got together to make this stunning contribution to Stone Free: A Tribute To Jimi Hendrix in 1993.

I still am partial to Belly's version of Are You Expereienced off the same CD... it's everything that was perfect about 90s Indie Grrl Rock.
